Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Efforts: 26% Success Rate

In the recent corruption report release by Transparency International Uganda, an NGO Bureau whose work contributes towards a corruption free society, Uganda was rated 26% in fighting against corruption which indicates the significant lack of transparency in government institutions and private sector.

According to Padde Gerald the programs Manager at Transparency International Uganda the rating showed clear indication that corruption remains a challenge in Uganda and we have details on what the possible causes are, and how to combat them.

Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024, revealed troubling stagnation in Uganda’s efforts to combat public sector corruption.

Despite government initiatives like the establishment of anti-corruption units within the President's Office and various public awareness campaigns, Uganda's CPI score has remained stagnant at 26 out of 100, mirroring global concerns about widespread corruption.

This is particularly concerning as corruption continues to obstruct vital progress on issues such as service delivery at district levels, where funds are often diverted, hindering the implementation of development action policies. According to Gerald padde they already kicked off investigation of funds which may be misused in this elections and campaigns

Despite the existence of laws and policies aimed at curbing corruption, the government still has failed to implement these into practice, which has weakened the systems in place.
